The World Cruising Club have agreed to help spread the word

The World Cruising Club will be printing and putting up Coastal Clean-up posters to be seen by all ARC rally participants on arrival in the Caribbean.

We hope that  this will inspire even more cruising sailors to help clean up the coastlines  in their anchorages around the world.

Following on from last seasons OCC supported "Suzie Too rally in the western Caribbean one of the UK papers published a piece reporting the scale of the problem faced by the San Blas islanders.

The Cruising Association (CA) is Britain's leading organisation for cruising sailors with over 6,300 members worldwide. Founded in 1908 to meet the needs of cruising sailors, the CA provide services, information, help and advice to sailors the world over. As such, we are pleased to be supporting the Coastal Clean-up Campaign, a global initiative to clean up the coastlines, backed by CA member Steve Brown's own efforts to enlist the support of cruising associations worldwide, the organisers of cruising rallies and in due course the local communities. We are actively encouraging our members to get behind this campaign alongside our own initiatives for reducing plastic, and we wish it every success.

SSCA is joining other cruising organizations like Cruising Club of America, Ocean Cruising Club and Cruising Association and asking members to support the Coastal Clean-up Campaign. This campaign is a worldwide network of cruising sailors committed to cleaning up the oceans. They have no headquarters and don’t ask for government support, sponsorship or even donations. Their goal is to keep clear plastic washed up onto the coastlines from re-entering the sea so that it doesn’t kill wildlife and enter the food chain. This campaign has a relatively new website, www.coastalcleanup.net, that allows cruisers worldwide to join the effort and help create a database of the plastic that is collected and recycled. Cruising volunteers visit some of the most remote islands, bays and beaches on the planet and wherever they go, they find plastic washed up or discarded littering the coastline and getting washed back into the sea to join the millions of tons already poisoning it. Since cruisers are passionate about keeping the oceans clean and safe for generations to come, this campaign is a natural fit for SSCA members.
